El Santo (The Saint / Il Santo)

The documentary traces the story of Carlo Fortunato, a general practitioner from Senise whom popular devotion has transformed into a lay saint. Through archive footage and accounts of alleged miracles attributed to him, his grandson and director Carlo D’Ursi Fortunato questions the boundary between the human and the divine, myth and reality, whilst also sharing intimate reflections on his own non-traditional family. And it is precisely in his loved ones that the director finds the reflection of those small miracles that give meaning to life.
