Spanning an extraordinary seven years, Sea Sisters intertwines the lives of two women living at opposite ends of the continent, both challenging the rules of coastal societies that remain deeply male-dominated. In southern Italy, in Gallipoli, Antonia stands up to her family and a patriarchal community to become a fisherwoman, like the father she lost at sea in a shipwreck, the causes of which remain shrouded in mystery. In the Arctic Ocean, Sandra, a Norwegian captain of Sami origin, manages to captain her own fishing boat, but pays a very high price: the loss of custody of her daughter Leah.
