A free adaptation of Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, which tells the strange love story between a man and a palm tree. Goyo, a postman in a small village in south-eastern Spain, is worried about the red palm weevil infestation, the beetles threatening the area’s splendid palm trees. Goyo fears for his favourite palm tree: a slender specimen he can see from his bedroom window, which he calls ‘Anita’ in honour of the legendary Swedish actress Anita Ekberg.

One morning, after a nightmare, Goyo begins to transform into a red palm weevil. His family decides to lock him in his room to keep him hidden. Condemned to live as an insect in the solitude of his room, Goyo watches the days pass whilst the palm grove withers away.

But the arrival of some musicians at the house will force him to emerge from his hiding place and thus bring to a head that monstrous passion for “Anita” that he so longed for.
