The multinational tyre manufacturer ‘CarAir’ announces the imminent closure of its Campolaro plant, resulting in the redundancy of dozens of workers, the vast majority of whom come from the small village nestled in the surrounding mountains. Determined not to give up, the workers organise forms of protest which, little by little, bring their case to the attention of the national news. Among the workers, Antonio dreams of returning to live in his village with his partner Nina, who now works in Milan and who, on the other hand, would prefer him to leave everything behind to go to Milan and marry her. The trade unionist Salvatore has a strained relationship with his eighteen-year-old son. Mario, on the other hand, who has two children and a mortgage to pay, seeks an alternative path by opening a fresh pasta factory together with his wife Emanuela and Salvatore’s wife. When CarAir decides to close the factory for good, the workers attempt an extreme act of protest: travelling to America to speak to Gerardo, Emanuela’s distant cousin who emigrated to America and whom many in the village believe is the reason for the factory’s closure. But by now it is truly too late…
