To mark Lino Banfi’s 90th birthday, “Lino d’Italia – Storia di un italieno” celebrates the life and career of one of the country’s most beloved comic actors. On the empty stage of the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Banfi confronts his alter ego Pasquale Zagaria, the lad from Canosa he once was before his success. From this intimate and ironic dialogue emerges a journey between memory and fiction: his rural childhood, the seminary, hunger, his early performances, popular cinema, television, right up to the legend of Nonno Libero. A tale suspended between dream and reality that weaves together repertoire, confession and performance to paint a human and artistic portrait of an ‘Italian’ who has spanned generations.
